Professional Development Beyond My Univerisity Days
I think one of the biggest changes for me in coming to China has been my attitude to professioanal development. I now know I was little lazy and stale as a teacher in this area. The relisaiton began set in in 2005 after some global travel that I need to do something a little different in my life where I did an intitial ESL Qualificaiton in Janauary 2006 with Teach International in Canberra Australia (pictured above). This was the begining of the journey that has taken me to China. I still have a lot of respect for my friend Tim Gilbert who challenged me to become an IELTS Examiner in 2008. In 2010 I really took this challenge seriously and began looking at how to upgrade my qualificaiton.
I completed the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment with Liv Training in 2011 which to this day has I say has transformed my teaching. It was also my first experience with the Moodle Learning Plateform which I think is a great online learning platform. The TAE helped , worked through the process of upgrading my TESOL to a Certificate IV Level through a partial RPL which professional handled throughTeach International, which allowed me to do the training to become an IELTS Examiner. For personal Interest I complete the young learners Certificate through TEFL Corp which provided me into insight to the training an number of the teachers I supervised has completed using their PPP Model and a Certificate in Teaching Business English through TESOL Direct accredited through the College of Teachers in London.
Recently I have been working through the update unit TAE411 in Adult Learning, Literacy and Numeracy. As I plan to go Australia I have commenced the Certificate IV Adult Learning Language and Nummeracy Assessment. Below are the links to the training organistion I have used in some reflections on their training.

Where I obtained my TESOL Qualification

As mentioned it was with Teach International I completed my intitial TESOL Qualificaiton and later I was able to use their help to gain a British Council recognsied TESOL Qualification partially through an RPL Package. I feel this to be one of the better course out there and nicely structured and from my experience in China beleive the training they offer is flexible is well suited to the real world of ESL Teaching. Where I obtained my Certificate IV Training and Assessment
The Certificate IV in Training and Assessement is the standard qualification for working in Adult Education. I found this training organsition to be thorough and has a wonderful learning plateform based on Moodle with many excellent simulation. I was able to do some of the units as RPL's. An American friend was so impressed with course and Liv Training she complete the course. Again highly a reccommend training organisation and as I say this training more than any other has transformed my teaching career. Click the logo for lnk to Liv Training
Where I OBTAINED my Other ESL QUalificationS
In 2011 a number of teachers where I worked took courses with the Internation TEFL Corp and I could see it had benefited them. I did there online young learners course. It was basically via email and download lessons in PDF Files. They used to PPP model which was a little different but it was interesting for me and filled a gap in knowledge as young learners is not my real strengh in ESL. Just be aware though some governement organisations do not recognsie what I feel is pretty decent training. Click the logo for the link

![]() During 2012 I wanted to obtained a British Council recognised certificate in Teaching Business ENglish. This is a distance course and I was basically a booklet to download and some links to other online articles. I found it it took discipline to complete the work. The course is accreditied through the College of Teachers in London. I found tutor to be help and thorough in his feedback. The College of Teachers does offer other professional development programmes. |
Certification in Adult Learning LIteracy and LEARNING

I have used this training organistion to add unit to help maintain currency with my Certification IV in Training and Assessment during 2014 and have completed the unit TAELLN411. They have used a Moodle training plateform and useful feedback in their emails. The assessment have been practical and interesting. The could be a little quicker in feedback but the communicaiton is always personal.

Soon I will be commencing studies with this training organsation for their Certificate IV in Adult Learning, Language, Numeracy and Assessment. This course is part of my reentry plan to Australia. My intitial impresions of this organisation is it is very professional and the emails have been detailed and thorough. I note also they have quite a range of useful learning and teaching resources for people in Adult Literacy and Numeracy.
