Qingming Festival 2012 - Visit to Jean's Village near Yang Mio

Picture
Every year since 2008 I have with my wife visited her village for the Qingming or Tomb Sweeping Festival. On this day many people travel in China and visit the tombs of relations meaning all the roads and buses are busy as many of the younger people who who work in the cities will return to the home villages.

In China a tomb is essentially an area set aside near to their fields with large mounds of soil. On this day paper and also some long fireworks are bought. While at the tombs paper is stacked in front of the them and the fireworks are rolled out. Usually the family stop to remember their departed relations and burn the paper and just prior to departure the fireworks are lit.
